“So, is it about who you know?” I ask William Hayes, producing

artistic director of Palm Beach Dramaworks as we enter the

theater’s executive office on Clematis Street. The space is like

a small elegant dining room, whose walls have been turned

into a gallery with pictures of all their past plays. Hayes turns

and continues our conversation about how playwrights develop

and sell their plays to theaters. “No,” he says with a smile. “In

the theater, it is who you develop your script with.” I nod, the
