Thanks to visionaries like Henry Flagler, whose Florida East Coast Railroad system accelerated development throughout the Sunshine State, and others who came after and liked what they saw . . . and stayed, West Palm Beach has been transformed over the years into a city of overwhelming variety. And, like a fine wine, it’s getting better with age.
I’m always inspired by the way people channel their inner strength to face the unknown. That’s what I love about the stories in this collection. Glimpsing what’s in other peoples’ hearts reminds me of the beauty and bravery that everyone carries, and how their dreams, ideas, and push for change helped cultivate our city—creating healthy and sustainable living for both locals and tourists.
At 126 years old, it turns out, West Palm Beach loves change as much as we do. Our city has ranged from bursting with vibrant nightlife and prime shopping to natural areas meant for biking, birding, and all things waterfront. Maybe because of a friend or family visit or a vacation time, or even due to immigration, West Palm Beach has become a new hometown to many people who have somehow helped transform this city and make it a wonderful place to live, work, and play.
